Call of Juarez Xbox 360 ReviewWe're kind of surprise why they don't make more FPS set in the Old West, considering we get ten FPS set in WWII and thirty about aliens taking over the world every year. The Old West had style. It was when men were men, women were women, and horses were horses. Not like today where they got no horses, but plenty of RPGs about guys who look like girls. Where's John Wayne when you need him?

We give Call of Juarez credit for having the best story in a Call of JuarezFPS on the 360. You play a cowboy named Billy who has been blamed for the murder of his mother and has to find the Aztec treasure while clearing his name. Yup. You know there's got to be gold involved when it's a western. But not just any gold. Aztec gold! But there's a twist. Besides playing the fugitive cowboy, you also play as a gunslinger named Reverend Ray who chases after Billy.

Call JuarezAre you confused? Well, don't be. The two main characters soon unite to fight for honor, vengeance, and the Aztec gold booty. The two characters play differently enough. Billy has a whip and bow for silent kills. The Reverend can quickdraw. The levels are designed for each character, so the game does offer a little more variety than the standard FPS.

Although that can be a problem with Billy, who must spend Call Juarez Xboxa great deal of time in stealth mode navigating bases as if he were Solid Snake without the flashy equipment. No sleeping gas here. Just long waits of boredom, and probably the most annoying thing in FPS gaming, platform sequences. Fortunately, there's the Reverend levels if you don't like the stealth parts. And yes, you can ride horses and shoot just like in the movies. The AI is good. It comes after you and tries to take cover when it can.

Juarez Xbox 360 ReviewGraphically, this game delivers. The western artwork is oustanding and really gives a sense of the vastness of the Old West. The characters do lack a little detail. But at least they look like the like they belong. The music even has that classic spaghetti western feel to it. If you don't know what a spaghetti western is, here's a hint, it doesn't involve pasta sauce.

The game has the standard online modes you would expect from all FPS like deathmatch, teamplay, and capture the flag. There's some additional battle reenactments you can do from the Old West that are enjoyable. Call of Juarez is a solid 360 title set in a very well crafted story and environment. We didn't like the stealth levels with Billy, but that's just our taste in gaming and we do not mark down for that.
