Armored Core 4 Xbox 360 ReviewKoei, probably the laziest programmers in the world, have decided that instead of creating a next gen Dynasty Warriors engine, they would instead license something and put it in the old Dynasty Warriors engine. Although it's kinda surprising they would pick a classic series like Gundam over some newer shows like One Piece, but it's still a pretty good choice since Gundam has been around for 30 years and has a legion of fans.

Like all other Dynasty Warriors games, you run around the Dynasty Warriors Gundambattlefield pressing the X button to attack. You can do a combo by pressing another button and when your super meter fills up, you can perform a supermove. The only significant difference is that you can fight in space, although the Gundam's just move a little slower in space to simulate zero gravity. Big deal. You also have access to guns, since these giant mobile suits mainly fight with guns. But the guns are ridiculously weak in this game. Koei made it so you'll spend all your time using your saber.

Gundam 360Sometimes, you'll fight a boss mobile suit which is Gundam's version of a Dynasty Warriors officer. Officers have a special move that they can use when attacking you, although they don't always use it. The game follows the stories of around 15 characters, but most of it is incoherent unless you know these characters and have watched all of Gundam. Basically, it's just destroy everything and move on to the next level.

The mobile suits are shiny, but not very detailed. The gameGundam Musou relies on CGI cutscenes for the detail instead of the ingame engine. There's a few good particle effects when you use your specials, but nothing else. The environments are dull and the characters sound annoying in English. The music isn't bad if you like the rock guitar music of a Dynasty Warriors game. The AI is horrible and just stands there while you beat up the army of mobile suits. One the hardest difficulty, a few will try and attack you at once.

There's coop mode for you and your friend to play. Nothing else. And as you play, you can unlock characters which opens up new stages designed for the specific character. It's a short review, because frankly, this game isn't very good. Koei really needs to do something with the Dynasty Warriors engine instead of allowing more units on screen or increasing the draw distance. We're going to stick with our philosophy of giving franchise games the franchise score, but we have to subtract 10 for this game not having multiplayer. Don't buy it if you're not a Dynasty Warriors fan. You'll be disappointed and left wondering why you keep pressing the same two buttons over and over.
