We've always been big fans of Atlus since the PS2 days. While they haven't always released good games, their games have always been different. And Operation Darkness is no exception. So you're part of the British special forces. You'll go from battle to battle trying to defeat the Nazis while uncovering some secret plot about how the Nazis are using monsters like zombies and vampires to fight their battles.
So naturally, you have to use your magical abilities, which involve turning into werewolves. In werewolf form, you can attack with your vicious claws. This would all sound nice, except it's a turn based game with a camera fixated on the player instead of the map. So you have to spend a lot of time cycling through enemies until you find one close to you and attack them if they're in your range.
Now when you have to move during combat, the game gives you a larger map. You can take cover and sniper or throw a fireball. The battles take some time to finish and you can get overwhelmed quite easily as you try to advance on the enemy units. Your squad has the required healer unit, a couple of gunners, and a couple of melee guys. So there are tactics that you will use over and over in the game.
The game has poor graphics. We would consider this a PS2 game in terms of character detail or textures. There's nothing interesting about any of the artwork. The environment is quite bland with a great deal of fog and a lack of grass. The one exception are the nice explosion, but everything else is plain. The music is the military marching type and the sound effects are weak. The voice acting is awful.
The game has a coop mission mode for online play. Some people like these types of niche games and Atlus is known for them, but this one isn't very good. If you're an Atlus fan, stick with the PS2 for better Atlus games. If you got to have a tactical 360 game, this may be your only bet, otherwise, we'd forget it.
