Everytime we play a flight sim, it reminds us of Top Gun. We're talking about the movie, not the horrible game. There's just something about fighter jets that really gets us excited. Maybe it's the afterburners, the explosions, or the thought of doing it with that hot blond from the movie. But this game doesn't excite us that much.
So you got about 30 jets and 20 missions. There's flight sim mode and arcade mode and the really difficult Hell Mode. There's a story mode, but basically, you're going to go around the world killing terrorists who surprisingly, have really expensive and powerful jets. And if you kill enough enemies, you'll face off against a boss fighter. There's also hidden bosses that only show up after you defeat the regular bosses a few times. You'll fight air, ground, and sea targets.
Similar to the older flight-sims circa 1990, you'll be using lock on missiles all the time just like real life. The guns are pretty useless because the fighters are harder to control than in more arcade type flight sims. If you want to use your guns, we suggest a different game. The AI in this game however, is questionable. Enemy fighters do not use many tactics and it's real easy to get behind them and lock-on, at least on normal setting.
The graphics look good. The fighters are realistic and the ground details show visible bases and locations. But the clouds could have been better. The music is okay, but isn't much to get excited about. You'll probably be spending most of the flight time with the outside view if you want to see the graphics. The inside cockpit really takes up too much space. But that's what real jet cockpits do.
This game has multiplayer, but only one on one deathmatch. That kinda stinks. The replay value is in unlocking the fighters, but it really doesn't matter much since you'll just be firing more missiles. So basically, once you finish the game, it's over for most people.
