The 360 gets another original and great title. You are the master of evil, the Dark Lord himself. But you start out kind of weak, because you were defeated. So you only have a few minions to help you pillage. And there's a ridiculous amount of pillaging. But we guess even Evil has to start at the bottom. And yes, in this game your creatures are called minions. But they look like goblins.
As the Dark Lord, you have super strength and powers that you can use directly on villagers and guards. But most of the time, you will be letting your minions do the damage. You get these creatures from a pit. The more power you gain, the more minions you can control. The game gives you four types of minions based on the cleric, mage, assassin, and fighter classes in most Dungeons and Dragons games. Your goal is to rebuild your base of power, which is a tower, retrieve its treasures, and kill the seven heroes that defeated you in the first place.
There's plenty of large powerful creatures to defeat, but your main task is still to kill the seven heroes. The game also gives you a choice of how evil you want to be, so you can still experience "love" through a relationship with two mistresses. You can upgrade your minions and they can do a variety of things, but mainly lifting, fighting, and being sacrificed for health and mana points. The fighting in this game is pretty simple. Point the minions at your target and let them go wild. You'll have to help your minions fight some of the more powerful enemies using your weapons and powers.
The graphics are sharp and very colorful. The environments look fantastic and your minions seem almost alive as they go about pillaging. This game is a great visual treat for any gamer. The music is dark, but lively. It's pretty good for setting the mood. There's plenty of details and enough humor to make the environments interesting.
This game features a few online modes in the form of coop, deathmatch, and a plunder challenge for pillage racing. You can replay the campaign, and based on your actions, the ending will be a little different each time. Overlord is a fun, although somewhat shallow, mix of RPG and strategy. We recommend this game for its originality, high production values, and offbeat humor.
