There's this scientist. He creates a time travel device and goes back in time to make himself ruler of the world. You play some guy who has to go back in time and stop him. The time travel devices are suits you wear. The scientist has the alpha suit and you get to use the beta suit, which has military capabilities that the alpha suit doesn't have.

Two interesting things about the beta suit. First is that it's been sabatoged by the mad scientist so you're stuck in the past. The second is that the suit can still change time itself, accelerating it, decelerating it, or pausing it like you do a VCR. When you arrive in the past, you discover that you're too late and the mad scientist already rules the world. You have to help the resistance defeat him. The story really falls into the standard kill all enemies on this level gameplay of an FPS after that.

There are a few puzzles that involve manipulating time, but the suit is mainly used to pause time so you can rest or steal your enemies weapons and use it against him. The suit does require a recharge, but the recharging time is pretty fast. Besides the suit, you get some very powerful weapons with exploding bullets and a few moments where you have to drive a vehicle while blowing stuff up.

This game has great graphics with plenty of details and nice textures. It is very dark however and the environment is a steel and concrete city. There's plenty of particle effects when you blow away the enemy and when you use the suit, the environment changes color to create a warping effect. The evironmental sounds are great, but there's not much of a soundtrack. The environment is partially destructible and the physics engine along with the AI is very good.

The game features the standard multiplayer deathmatch and team modes. The multiplayer has grenades that work in the same manner as the suit. Just throw it and watch time slow or pause. It's funny when everyone throws different grenades at the same time. The single player takes 10 hours. TimeShift is a solid game with a great engine and plenty of multiplayer fun.
