Unreal is a multiplayer game featuring a large selection of weapons, vechiles, and AI bots. The main emphasis is on the online mutiplayer aspects, but there is a campaign mode. We won't bother with the story because it's just really the multiplayer maps filled with bots. You just progress from one map to another with a cutscene. You can even play the single mode online with others.

In Unreal, you can drive tanks, jeeps, fighters, and even a hoverboard. There's two sides, the Axon (humans) and the Necris (cyborgs) and a few other teams. The game has the required weapons like the rocket launcher and sniper rifle, but there's also more exotic weapons like the shock rifle and impact hammer. The action is hard and fast with plenty of explosions and laser fire everywhere. Don't bother ducking and covering because it's all about run and gun. Your team has a few objectives, but it all comes down to tearing the other team apart.

The game has excellent AI that take advantage of terrain and really go after you when you're in the open. There is support for a dozen bots and the maps are large enough that you can have a good time in the vehicles. The lack of any real focus in the mission does hurt the single player campaign, but Unreal has always been a multiplayer experience.

As you would expect since the game uses the Unreal Engine, it looks incredible with excellent textures and character models. All the action takes place in a futuristic city so there's a great deal of gray and silver everywhere. The lighting and particle effects are excellent and the framerate holds up in heavy combat. The beeps and techno music can get on your nerves, but for this type of FPS, it's expected.

The main emphasis is on the multiplayer deathmatch and team modes. The game is a blast if you are into multiplayer gaming, and if not, the game has plenty of bots that will keep your entertained just as much in skirmish. The action is fast and furious and highly recommended.
